Just study the Bible, and follow Jesus. All of these fad teachings are gross error. Stay away from them and you'll be fine. I've been following the lord Jesus Christ since 1973. He always has blessed my life. He will give you a love for people. You will be thankful to God for so much.
It interests me as a person of faith, what you perceive Jesus' teachings to be? Most self-proclaimed Christians have not got a clue but cling to the Old Testament and its tribal "justice", ignoring how much Jesus told us to stop following narrow rules and embrace universal love without reservation. If you harden your heart and judge any other person, you do not follow Jesus. If you exclude any group from having justice and equity in our society, you do not follow Jesus. Jesus taught us to think for ourselves but to do so with open and loving minds. So again – what teachings do you follow that you think the rest of us should follow as well?
I agree with Larry, just back to the bible and what It said. You must spread the gospel around the world, so every body will hear the good news. Jesus loves you, Leah, please don't offence your Christian brother and sister. God bless
It is all about tolerance and not dogma. I am happy for the comfort you take in your faith, but you are not entitled to thrust it upon everyone else and impact the Rule of Law with it. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. THAT is religious freedom. God has blessed me and assigned me this difficult task of defending mainline Christians while exposing the bible-based cult that preys on the desperate in the name of God.
Leah
Great website Leah. I am from England and we have the opposite problem here, almost universal secularism and what is known as the new atheism, (as opposed to the earlier, more philosophical, atheism), which is, I'm afraid to say, quite aggressive and sarcastic. We have become used to a culture of scientists and academics being pilloried for holding even the mildest christian beliefs.
I applaud you for standing up for genuine christians who know that the word and love of God can only be spread by the mind and heart and not by coercion and violence. It makes me very sad that many of the armed forces personnel in your country do not see that God's purpose is not furthered by killing those of other religions.
It always pains me to see people abuse Christ's teachings. You must be daily inconvenienced by this to go to so much trouble. I think the problem your countrymen are having is that they have forgotten that real christians are hard on themselves but gentle with others. We must never forget that it is God alone who is qualified to stand in judgement.
Thank you for taking the time to comment…and yes, it is all quite sad, isn't it. Jesus did preach to be known by your good works/deeds. Fortunately, it is a loudmouthed minority in this country and elsewhere that have co-opted the Christian faith and scripture-twisted its meaning. UNfortunately, in this country that has become synonymous with the Republican Party and that group actually votes. There are more of us who are moderates and believe in a secular government – but we tend to enjoy pontificating and wrongly mistaking NOT voting as a show of some kind of power.
It really comes down to extremism. Every theology, philosophy and ideology is infected by extremism. They ruin it for the rest of the world. Christians have Dominionist. Islam has the Wahabbists. And yes, even the Atheists have a militant sect that has become so haughty that they are turning that into a religion.
What I am inconvenienced by daily is pure ignorance and hostility in the name of religion bu those who want to dictate their skewed faith to the rest of the world through laws and military might. I really, really, REALLY don't want my daughter or granddaughter to live in a theocracy. THAT is my daily fuel…as exhausting as this can get each day. Thank you for your thoughts and support!
If there are others out there who are having similar difficulties with this new format please let me know. Deborah @ God Discussion.com kindly optimized my site and dove-tailed ours together so that we would generate traffic for each other…especially for me as I am working on the book and other projects. She is amazing at getting up more content. I appreciate your input…
