It’s essential that all people be informed and vigilant against the aggressive efforts of fundamentalists to subvert government to their narrow beliefs. We’ve seen the hateful nature of many, even most, of these groups, and they definitely do not embody the love that Jesus taught.

It’s hard to imagine a county such as you describe, where “dominionist ‘Christianity’ is forced on you in places where it doesn’t belong (like in stores and schools and even government buildings.)” I hope you and like-minded people can take action to end this insidious attack on human rights in your county. Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. I strongly believe that, in spite of–or because of–my own religious convictions, which are infinitely different from dominionist dogma.

Uh… the Air Force Academy had to be forced to provide space for non-Christians, and they still have been caught trying to force “Christianity” on the non-Christian cadets (and dominionist “Christianity” on the mainstream Christian cadets). If it wasn’t for the MRFF, they’d still be openly persecuting non-dominionists (and probably still are but in more covert ways).

Treating others with respect and giving them the same rights as “Christians” (dominionists) wasn’t their idea or something they wanted to do. They had to be forced to do so and the hostility because of that continues to this day. The sad fact is the dominionism is rife throughout our military, and what happened at the Air Force Academy happens elsewhere.

This, by the way, is a fact of life in many areas of the country. In the county in which I live, sectarian prayers during government meetings are the norm. Persecution of non-Christians is also fairly common, and it’s common to have dominionist “Christianity” forced on you in places where it doesn’t belong (like in stores and schools and even government buildings). I get tired of it – for instance, church (dominionist) doings are often considered headline news to our newspaper, although they tend to ignore news involving other religions and churches. Who cares that a ministry uses animals to proselytize? Who cares that Joe Blow preacher is preaching a revival at Big Name Baptist megachurch? That’s not really headline news, especially for a small city with hundreds of churches.

Considering all the hoopla, it’s amazing that the National Day of Prayer flew beneath my radar. I forgot all about it, didn’t notice it had happened, and think the President and all the politicians nationwide who participated have more important things to do. All those so inclined can feel free to pray for me. I’m grateful to live in a secular nation, even if only on paper. I’m sorry I missed the National Day of Reason. It’s far more my speed.

Walkaway I agree with you completely. You know I really do not care if these people have their religious service. I am not, nor have I ever been against religion. Like I said live and let live. My problem comes when the evangelicals refuse to let the rest of us live in peace. I had a set of parents, I don’t need them telling me what is good for me.

By my standards, the people doing a day of reason are giving prayers with far more efficacy than those who call for prayers and preaching (really proselytizing).

They’re putting their money/resources where their mouth is, and not only that, they’re (in my view) aligning themselves far closer to what God and Jesus have been trying to get people to understand.
