Dominionism in American Politics – "Expanding the discussion behind the Headlines"
What IS Dominionism?
ShareWhat IS Dominionism? In a word – Theocracy. Think of this word as a big umbrella. Under the umbrella of Political Dominionism are numerous “franchises” or sects of radical Christian belief whose goal it is to take “dominion” over all things … Continue reading →
The invocation prayer for the Texas Board of Education by Cynthia Dunbar says it all…and no, you are not watching the beginning of a church service, it just sounds like it!
Many have fought this decision by Texas Christian Dominionist politicians for not just the last heated months, but for years – and we have lost this battle. They passed the changes to our public education textbooks that will skew America’s history for children over the next decade. They not only inserted their “Christian nation” rhetoric, but their neoconservative “patriotic” propaganda as well. They have now created a revisionist history text that reflects the ignorance and indoctrinated misinformation of the Christian Dominionist Tea Party demographic.
I was asked last night by friends of mine…”How did it get this bad? How did we let this happen?” In a word…RACISM. The dominionists have been pushing and fighting for years to “christianize” our history books…just read up on David Barton, who was very much behind this coup. But it took a climate such as the one we are experiencing in the United States in the aftermath of an African-American President elected to serve as our leader to give these zealots the victory they have been seeking for so long.
I don’t care how many ways racism is denied as a factor. Really I don’t. Because it is at the root of all this fanaticism. Racism in the name of God, no less. They are re-writing slavery as merely a trade triangle and insultingly stating that the slaves were lucky. They have omitted the Alamo and American-Mexican history. They have made some of the most outrageous changes, a few of which are listed below…
Blind Faith Indoctrination Curriculum
• Struck the word “democratic” in references to the form of U.S. government and replaced it with “constitutional republic.”
• Added references to “laws of nature and nature’s God” in lessons about major political ideas.
• Rejected lessons about why the United States was founded on the principle of religious freedom.
• Removed most references to “capitalism,” “capitalist” and “free market,” because conservatives said they had a “negative connotation.” Instead, “free enterprise” will be used when referring to the U.S. economic system.
The work that TFN does on all our behalves is tireless and crucially important. Even though Education Secretary Arne Duncan came out with a statement down playing the effects of this decision by the Texas Dominionist politicians as it relates to the country as a whole, don’t relax your concerns. This is a prime example of the insertion of the Christian Dominionist Mandate referred to on this blog numerous times – The 7 Mountains Mandate. Revisit the video on the right side bar to view their own sales promo of just what that Mandate entails.
Education is one of the most coveted mountains on this roster…and are bringing a whole new meaning to “No Child Left Behind”!
Bring on that Rapture…it cannot happen soon enough!
Leah, as an ex Asemblies of God minister I've been screaming and trying to get the word out on their Dominion Theology. Nobody is listening!
I fled my church several years ago ( I was the assistant Pastor) because this was starting to get preached and it is unbiblical.
People have no idea that they are pawns in this ideology that is being masked in conservatism and libertarianism.
Revelations talks of the harlot that sits on 7 mountains. The churches have preached that this is the Catholic Church that will head the one world religion. But when you throw in C Street and their government within our government (they send OUR politicians to other world leaders to lead them to Christ and then talk about Dominion) and the retaking of the 7 Mountains by Conservative Christians, I'm wondering if our own right wing Christianity could be the one world religion. For the Bible talks of MOST of the Christians going into apostasy.
This is frightening! This is the first ime I've really been afraid for our country.
I am elated to hear from you and at the same time it always disturbs me to have my fears confirmed yet again by those who have walked away from this sect of Christianity. It is frightening and I am doing all I can to package this message in a way that will reach the 70% of Americans who are not guzzling the Dominion Theology kool aid. I welcome your comments and hope that you will impart more for myself and my readers to learn from! Thank you!
Leah, It was the Holy Spirit Who gave me no rest until I left! I kept thinking if I stayed I could help them. But to no avail. I had to flee because the Bible says "to be no part of them". They believe I am going to hell and even preached on me. I know this because someone called me and told me what was going on. Apparently I am the poster child for turning my back on God.
So sad.
I have learned enough from you, Leah, to believe you know of what you speak. And we free-thinking Americans have let it happen. Shame on us.
This is just one instance of how the right-wing extremists are pushing their agenda. Rand Paul is attacking the Civil Rights act, aided and abetted by John Stossel of Fox News. Look at Arizona and their new "show me your papers" law.
And the right-wing extremists in the Senate and Congress are making big noises about jobs, the oil spill, the economy, health care, etc., to cover up what's happening at the local level in many states. They are slowly eroding our freedoms and we are letting it occur.
Watch your primaries and elections very carefully in 2010. These people need to be kept OUT of government at EVERY level.
Very well put! That is the most powerful thing we can do…PAY ATTENTION! Screen candidates running from all parties (to catch the Stealthers) and be proactive. You are 100% correct. We can stem this tide and turn it around. We are in the majority. WE just have to act like it. And when I say "we"…I am not referring to party demographics. I am referring to the fact that there are significantly more citizens in this country who know how to have intelligent discourse and reach solutions that are in the best interests of Americans and do not yearn for a Civil War as a precursor to a worldwide Holy War.
I learn from all of you as well…not the least of which is that we are many.
Maybe that is why I am feeling so nauseas today…and I am not kidding. But take heart…I do think that it is a process that has to occur so that others who do not pay any attention will wake up to this push for Christian dominance in America. Telling people that this has been coming has not been working. Maybe now that they see the actual outcomes of what happens when we don't vote attitudes will change. Turn out for local elections across the country is dismal at best and hardly anyone pays attention to school board elections. We really need to wake up as an electorate.
The good news in all of this is the changes in the publishing industry in the last decade. Changes can be easily made without great expense. Alternative texts can easily be produced.Texas is going to find that they aren't as powerful as they thought. This takes the battle to the rest of the country. If the majority of the other states refuse the Texas standards, the publishers will adapt.
Unfortunately, now Texas will leave all their children behind.

I could not listen to their invocation. This is a major battle lost and is very disturbing. The impact will be nationwide and is a serious blow.

You are correct…it will shift the previous standard and perhaps bring this extremism to light one school board at a time across the country.
Unfortunately, now Texas will leave all their children behind.
