UPDATE: As you all know by now, Palin’s “speech” was broadcast on C-span and MSNBC last night…initially they had announced that it was going to be a Press blackout. So my reference below is outdated, but it is a common desire by Palin and her “handlers” (ewww) to always strive for private closed door gatherings…she is just that special!
Speaking of hands…that is where her speech was literally written! LOL And they all berate Obama for his teleprompters???
Hatriotism is alive and well in Tennessee! The Teabag Nation is packing heat and the racism and vitriol is cold blooded…I can’t help wondering if the “musak” playing in the background at this gathering is variations on banjo music. They are kinda pushing for a deliverance message, actually.
White Racial Resentment Bubbles Under the Surface of the Tea Party Movement
By Rich Benjamin, AlterNetPosted on February 5, 2010Editor’s Note: Rich Benjamin’s commentary on the underlying “white grievance” currents in the Tea Party movement were buttressed Thursday by the statements of Republican Tom Tancredo, the opening speaker at the Tea Party convention. Tancredo told attendees that President Barack Obama was elected because “we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country,” an allusion to how Southern states used literacy tests as part of an effort to deny suffrage to African American voters before the civil rights era.
The depth of ignorance is bottomless! In his racist remarks he so lacks clarity as to who his followers are that he misses the mark by a mile. These people truly don’t get that had there been a civics test…it’s not the African American population that would have been denied the right to but rather the Teabagging Hatriots…his very own supporters! What an ass! The article goes on to say…
[...] The simmering movement is the whitest phenomenon on the national scene, evident not just in the millions of Caucasians committed to its cause, but in the bedrock beliefs stirring its anti-government contempt.
How fitting, therefore, that Sarah Palin keynote the movement’s first organized confab. Neglected in all the fevered conversation around the movement’s meteoric rise, and Palin’s selection, is any useful reflection on what the cause and this figurehead stand for: white racial resentment. Packed beneath her beehive is a spitfire brew of optimistic, yet aggrieved, whiteness. Palin embodies a bizarre, sometimes alluring, combination of triumph and complaint that many Caucasian Tea Partiers identify with through and through.
Okay…time out. So wrapped up in all this one race, bible-belt battle cry there is the ongoing rhetoric about money, conservative budgeting, responsible spending, and so forth. So I just want to get this correct. To attend this Hate-Fest filled with angry white people, you are looking to lay out a whopping $549.00+9.95 fee, of which $349.00 of that is solely to get you in to hear the word salad Queen give her speech.
These people are having far fewer problems than the rest of us “true Americans” to afford that kind of expenditure! Her speaking fee is $100,000 and she has these sheeple convinced that she is just one of them…a simple homespun gal from the backwoods that don’t know nuthin’ and is proud of it. And in all her proclaimed passion for her fellow extremists of every ilk…it would just simply be beneath her to speak to them for nuthin’….
[...]Palin voices the right-wing drumbeat warning Americans that “government is on your back” and “you should keep your own money.” Alongside other avid Tea Party supporters like Tom Tancredo and Glenn Beck, Palin gins-up conservative whites’ existing resentment over race, carping over the “high taxes” for public services assumed to be wasted on “illegals” and minorities.[...]
These are “Palin-folk”…plain and oh so simple. But I have to say…Palin walks her talk! When she says she takes a stand against taxes, by god she means it! I can hear her saying….“Cabins? What cabins? Hey, if they didn’t catch I’m not tellin’. I’m a ‘rell’ American, and us patriots are above taxes…oh, and the law.”
Denouncing government assistance and free school lunches at a town hall meeting in late January, South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer, a Tea Party supporter, said: “My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that.”
Really? She wasn’t highly educated? NO! And yet someone provided ample food supply enough that she reproduced and isn’t the world lucky to have loving Christian Americians like Andre Bauer! Does this make you as sick to your stomach as it does me? His comments were about Haitian refugee assistance and free school lunches! And this inbred politician suggests that starving the needy is a genocidal answer. What in God’s name is going on?
And the capper? Queen Esther of the High Order of the Common Teabaggers has of course, demanded that her nonsense is closed to the Press. You know all that talk Palin spews forth about “change” and “beltway transparency”? Hmmm…do you suppose this is what she means?
I guess when you are colluding with armed wingnuts to plot an insurrection of the very country that you profess such undying love for…it really is best to do these things behind closed doors.

I thought she was going to be on tv giving her speech tonight.
Another irony: all the current fuss over the emails also is meaningless to the teabaggers. Of course, Todd would be in there making decisions. A woman is supposed to submit to her husband,. They are going to think the state of affairs in Alaska is what it should have been.
In all the years I have been around politics, and had the opportunity to personally know a few Governors, I have never known any of their spouses to have been involved in cabinet level decisions; never saw any of them hanging in the halls of the legislature during session; or known of them to fly with state officials on state business at state expense.
You are correct, the Teadumbers will not care, but the rest of us need to keep this alive and expose the arrogance, hypocrisy and the Palin's sense of immunity to the rule of law and rules that apply to the rest of us.
We need more information about the link between the white supremacists and the tparty nation. I read a post about it somewhere this week, but all of the new info has taken over in my brain!!! and I just don't remember where.
I found one of the posts:

"carp" – can't even spell my own name: WaveLength
We enjoyed listening to the online radio show the other night. Can't wait for your book to come out. Thank you for investing so much of your time and energy into educating people about the very real threat these folks represent.
From the video clips I've viewed and the press releases and commentary I've read about the current TP Convention, I am thoroughly appalled. Most of the attendees and speakers represented in the media showcases demonstrate a miserable grasp of basic knowledge about our country's history, Constitution, and political process. When they rail against the "intellectual elite," I cannot help but think they really mean they are jealous of anyone who has completed high school. There is no wonder as to why the real power brokers on the right are delighted to have these easily manipulated, low-information voters on the rise.
I note that I've not seen any MSM ask these attendees and speakers about the recent revelations about Palin and her husband. Not that the attendees would blink an eyelid in concern over tax scandals. Their lack of knowledge and understanding of the basics of how our government is structured and why explains why they have no complaints about Todd's intrusion into the governing process.
Tancredo's stupid and racist-tainted remark about the need to a civics test as a threshold for voting might better be linked to running for office. I wonder how many of our current politicians and wannabees such as Palin would pass a basic civics exam?
Well, enough venting. I am just so tired of these ill-informed, incurious and insensitive blowhards trying to "save our Country." It's scary to contemplate what our country would be like if they were to gain control, but it's also scary to think what could happen if they lose. Their anger is still anger and they are better-armed and less-inhibited than the rest of us. I find it ironic that the moderates and liberals they so hate are the ones who are most tolerant and patient, and who really want to protect the freedoms that the teabaggers in their quest to purify America would take away.
i hope we all can stay vigilant, stay active, and mobilize at elections to ensure these lunatics are kept our of power. But, unfortunately, it is not just our political system that is endangered. We have to stay alert for attacks on the other "six" mountains they strive to control.
Thanks again for writing insightful commentary, exposing these various groups' foundations and motives, and providing a forum of us to vent with and learn from one another..
The ReBiblican politicians and candidates like their sheeples uninformed. It is so much easier to indoctrinate the masses when they have NO understanding of civics, American history, the powers of the 3 branches of government and the entire political process. They are truly the Teadumb Nation!
It is embarrassing internationally.
They use a tried and true formula…inspire fear; prey on their paranoias; ignite their hatreds; lash out at the opposition and feed them angry rhetoric. This all makes for a frightening minority of loud bullies.
Knowledge is power…and we have that on our side. Let's use it!
To think when I was of their ilk I was going through every level from grade school to community college and even out on my own… even some people who know me now may still know Fundie Steve.
I hope someone gets vidio out of the queens speil. Not that i really want to hear it but i guess we must check on the children. I would imagine Faux would release segments otherwise the whole thing will just be a circlejerk.
I heard somewhere that CPSAN will be carrying her speech/rant but ????
And yes Leah, this all makes me beyond sick to my stomach! Thank you for carrying on the good fight and helping us find ways to bring it to light. I heart you!
Of course Sarah is lying when she says she won't benefit form the $100,000 fee. The reason she is there is the money otherwise she would have made an excuse about some other obligation. Sarah has had a bad week, I guess she just wasn't in "Jesus's favor".
Tell it Leah! I can tell you are pissed and I'm right there. Just watched Palin's speech at the Tea Party convention or whatever they are calling it. What a hateful witch! It was like her hateful Republican convention speech. I am so embarrassed for my sex, my town, my state, and my country (I'm a female from Wasilla). This has got to STOP before it does anymore damage. She had her shout-outs to her fellow Rebiblicans – You betcha!
You shouldn't be embarrassed, however, $arah should. She criticizes big government and she talks about all she did for Wasilla, cutting taxes, etc. yet she neglects to mention the fact that while Mayor she not only took more than $25 million in earmarks for her small town of less than 7k people, but she left them more than $22 million in debt. Those pesky facts just never get mentioned by her. Do they?
She was not a happy camper tonight and it showed. The revelations from the emails are going to bring up a lot of questions, not from her fans—they're too blind to her faults, but from those behind the scenes. If they have any plans for her to run for higher office, those emails put a huge hurt on them, not to mention the thousands yet to be revealed. How can they claim executive privilege, yet Todd, a private citizen who is NOT accountable per the state, was allowed not only to receive the very same emails but to send emails considered to have executive privilege. You can't have it both ways. The $hit is going to hit the fan and it couldn't happen to a more deserving couple.
C-SPAN did carry her speech and I believe it will be rerun later today but I don't know what time. It might be posted on their website.
The Southern Poverty Law Center website has lots and lots of the various white supremacist groups and the articles are well worth reading. There are some interactive maps that show where these groups are located by state.

It was obvious that Palin was not in a jolly mood – she seemed like a very angry lady. On second thought, I don't think the term lady is appropriate for her………how about harridan? She was bitter and nasty and seem to take great pleasure in bashing POTUS and using the term revolution. It is so funny that she got caught once again with her hypocrisy, by writing in the palm of her hand. HuffPost has a good write-up and a close-up with her talking points .
Living not far from Nashville, I'm well aware of how many hateful and bigoted people there are in this area. Fortunately, there are a few who see Palin and the teabaggers for what they are………just not enough of the bright ones.
Keep up the great work Leah!
BTW – David Corn of Mother Jones magazine posted that he had seen the contract for the convention and Palin was to receive $115,000 plus travel and lodging. She had been paid $50,000 of it in advance, and Judson Phillips had BORROWED that amount to meet her demands. One wonders if there is any buyer's remorse today and if they actually made any profit at all. Nothing at Opryland comes cheap. Also makes one wonder just who those were that could afford tickets of that amount as well as their own travel and lodging. Did they rob their piggy banks, take out loans, or were they mostly professionals who are part of the dreaded elitists?
Something else isn't it? She is just one of "them"…the "rell" Americans…a simple hockey mom. Too bad all those sheeples who say that can't afford her "common, just one of the people" tickets to hear her speak to them! Absurd!
I watched the whole thing on CSPAN – GAG! She was terrible – even more nasty & mean than usual, read a good part of her speech, head down, losing her place frequently. Nothing but lies about our President, rabid neocon stuff on security. After speech she wandered around on the stage while they figured out how to get her over to the chairs for her pre-approved Q&A. The highlight of the evening was when she got caught looking at the cheat notes written on the palm of her hand. It's gone viral. She had earlier criticized the President for using a teleprompter again. Now folks are talking about her palmepromtper. LOL! Here is a link to a close up of her hand & what was written there:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hWAVXHNngbk/S26NQXnliuI...
She mentioned that the country was going to have to ask for divine intervention to save the nation & some other weak references to God, but it didn't go over well at all with her audience. Scattered & weak applause. OK – Going to bed and praying not to have nightmares.
Palin's coming to speak in Wichita Kansas May 2nd.
I'd like to know if anyone is going to organize a protest group here? If so, please contact me at: marycaruso@sktc.net.
Has anybody done a demographic breakdown of the tea party 'convention'? I would be interested to see how many people of color are there, just for "S&G" purposes (s*!ts & giggles).
What should be noticeable by now is the hijacking of movements, infiltration, etc.. The tea party being just one of the many tools of the corporate controlled u.s. So no I do not see grass roots folks overall being against other people’s colors. That’s not to say that racist folks do not exist in such movements.
It might be wise to attack those who try and infiltrate grass roots organizations rather than attacking the grassroots efforts of your fellow countrymen. Just my two cents…
