Pastor “Teabagger”

Here is a despicable ambassador for Christianity!

Southern Baptist Pastor Wiley Drake of Buena Park sent out an email Monday night, saying that perhaps his prayers had been answered with the death of Rep. John Murtha yesterday.
“Maybe God took him out,” Drake wrote. “Maybe God Answered our IMPRECATORY prayer that we prayed every 30 days.”
The Pennsylvania congressman, a decorated former Marine who fiercely opposed the Iraq war, died at the age of 77 after complications from gallbladder surgery.
I asked Drake if his statements weren’t distasteful, particularly coming immediately after Murtha’s death. He said that as a Christian, he didn’t buy into the sentiment of not speaking ill of the dead.
“It’s not distasteful to pray the word of God and include somebody’s name,” he said. “I didn’t celebrate his death. I said maybe it was God’s answer to our imprecatory prayer.”

Drake has held postions as high up as Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention, and failed in a bid to be the denominations President in 2008. The fact that he is held as a leader in the Baptist church community now demonstrates how steeplejacked this denomination has evolved.

This same Khristian has also called upon his “spiritual prayer warriors” to pray Psalm 109 imprecatory prayers against President Obama on the Alan Colmes Show in June 2009. He is a “birther” and claims that Obama is not an American citizen.

He was a vocal and enthusiastic supporter of Mike Huckabee in the 2008 campaign. He completely blurs the line between separation of church & state. His imprecatory prayers were extended against some members of the Americans United for Separation of Church & State for reporting his overt political endorsement of Huckabee to the IRS as a possible tax code violation.

He reveled in the assassination death of Dr. Tiller.

It is important to give this guy print because he represents a very dangerous and violent growing view of what “real Christians” represent. There are enough followers of this guy’s version of the Word of God to make him dangerous, and those other “men of the cloth” just like him. They appeal to the extremists who have enough hate and anger to pick up the weapon of choice and go after the subject of their prayers, such as Scott Roeder did when he assassinated Dr. Tiller.

He is a uneducated, homophobic, anti-immigrant, birther, son of a tent revival horse trader. No…really. I am not making that up.

His vitriol is so well known and documented that he has made the wall of most despicable over at the Southern Poverty Law Center by proudly associating himself as the official chaplain of the Minuteman Project.

I also recommend that you click on the different states on this map at SPLC that lists the various hate groups spanning our country. They literally call this a “Hate Map”, and sadly, with accuracy.

It is only a matter of time until we see the tea party movement added to this map.

How far the GOP has fallen…. From intellectual giants like Eisenhower, Rockefeller, Goldwater and William F Buckley to mental midgets like GW Bush, Palin, Limbaugh and Beck. Then we see this, the fruition of the "Southern Strategy" , when the GOP sold its soul and true conservative principles for that would become the sickness called religious right neo-conservatism. Until REAL conservatives take their party back from the fringe nutters and biblicans I will be an independent voting for the Democratic Party

This is OT, but thanks for helping bring Frank Schaeffer into my awareness. I'm now reading his "Crazy for God", and when I'm done, plan to donate it to our local library. What a sane and compassionate voice he has.

You are most welcome! He is definitely working toward redemption for his part in bringing this insanity down upon all of us in a commercialized way….and I applaud him for that.

What this creep does NOT tell his followers is that the first through third verses of Psalm 109 read like a prayer that President Obama (and their other targets) could use against them:

    1. Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; 2. For the mouths of the wicked and the mouths of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue; 3. they have conspired against me with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

Back at-cha, Pastor! Be careful that your followers don't start reading for themselves and decide you're full of shit.

I've noticed in the past that these guys are a little cagey with their prayers – either using coded language or Bible verses to get their message out and yet not being explicit. Then they hedge when asked what it means. This video shocked me. When asked if he was praying for Obama's death he actually said yes – flat out yes!

I take comfort in knowing he is definitely on the FBI's and Secret Service's watch list. The REAL Christian community needs to rise up and call for the arrest of these people.

They can pray all they want. My time is spent informing people of these ignorant phreaks. Education is being battered. The best we can do is not let them alter our textbooks for our children. Talk to your school district and dont let them buy altered schoolbooks.

    • GenieO says:

I couldn't agree more. They have been targeting our public schools through the Board of Ed for many years. We have to take our schools back and make education one of our top priorities.

      • AKjah says:

GenieO We have found a problem in our local school and we have asertained that it was an individual and not the administration. Our hope is that it will be solved quietly and not go to the papers as that may make things worse. Right now a big huppla about one ignorant is not going to help the whole of the problem. What will help is better vetting of those who run for school board. This is our job and this is what we need to do. In the mean time this persons job is i the balance.

        • GenieO says:

Yes, AK – unfortunately I've heard many stories of big problems cause by one individual. And you are right, these should be handled privately.
My first response was about the religious right specifically targeting schools through Board of Eds. That way they control which text books are used and how science and history are taught. They want to shape our children's minds and thinking processes, knowing that what kids learn young, usually sticks.

Thanks for shining a light on this cockroach. Hopefully, once enough non-extremists become aware of just how crazy people such as this man are, more will be willing to urge our government to hold people who promote hate and violence more accountable.

You are helping educate and enlighten so many. Thanks for caring enough to invest time, effort, and money into this blog. Please be careful. These folks don't seem to take criticism well.

Since I do not believe in praying for someone's death unless they are suffering extremely and dying would be a release, I shall instead pray that Drake suffers an extreme and prolonged case of laryngitys (sp?).
