As I have revealed here in the past, I am a football fan. I know, I know, it is something I am severely chastised for at times. And in a post I did some months back I expressed my complete lack of patience with the missionary players prancing around with bible verses on their eye make-up. Or pointing at the sky like God takes time out of his chore list of helping the poor, indigent and suffering – so that He can make sure that Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb, Roethlisberger, Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy and the whole cultist membership of primdona quarterbacks can grandstand on a grass field.
Now here we have the joining of Focus on the Family Dominioinist Leader and notorious proponent of appalling child abuse techniques, James Dobson and his millionaire Khristian pals, paying between 2.5 and 2.8 million dollars, to air an ad during the Super Bowl starring none other than the most coddled of male stars, Tim Tebow. The god business sure pays well!
Tebow, who has risen to fame more because of his relentless advertising of faith through bible verses on his face than his athletic ability is not even in the running as a 1st or 2nd Draft pick for the NFL. His throwing methods are so slow he would never make a successful quarterback in the big boy games. He has enjoyed an inflated sense of success in the college league, but would be stripped of the ball more times than yet another Dominionist player, Matt Hasselbeck. (If there is a God…PLEASE don’t give us two of them!)
So here he comes, riding that pious Khristian wave into the Super Bowl spotlight, bought and paid for by Dobson & Co. to preach to us about abortion. Their approach is going to be to have Mrs. Tim describe her story of being ill during her 1987 pregnancy with fetus Tim, and telling us that her doctor in the Philippines recommended that she abort.
Problem? Abortion is, and has been illegal in the Philippines since 1930 and punishable by a 6 year prison term so someone is telling an untruth, or lie. Which ever way you prefer to term it, it remains one of the 7 deadly sins…Mrs. Tim.
(Ah…but truth is certainly one of those pesky pieces of the inerrant Bible that may be on the chopping block in the new and improved version of the Bible according to Dominionists slated to come out this year by Zondervan Publishing…what was I thinking.) These people are truly a study in narcissism.
Soooo….
- they will be touting the value of the unborn
- paid for by a proponent of religiously motivated child abuse
- on the heels of the Scott Roeder conviction for the assissiantion of Dr. Tiller for preforming medically-indicated abortions
- and all this during the biggest testosterone sports game of the year!
The majority of that television audience will be perfecting the head on their beer and not putting one iota of thought into unwanted pregnancy. That is SO not a guys concern.
If it were about the male side of responsibility in unwanted pregnancy, our discussion of abortion would be dramatically different.
Now, let’s say Timmy were to go on a Super Bowl ad saying that in order to stop abortions of unwanted pregnancies, he was endorsing a new law that would punish males for being repeat offenders of getting women pregnant through the irresponsible omition of male contraceptive use…then I am thinking that there would be a real audience!
If it became a felony to “irresponsibly impregnate” a woman?
I am thinking that abortions would drop significantly in America!
I am just sayin’…

I am not sure what "falsely impregnate" a woman means? False mean not true, so maybe you mean "a felony to "impregnate" a woman. A falsely impregnated woman would not be pregnant so where is the harm?
I agree with your post. I think I am just nitpicking.
NO…you are not nitpicking…I just lose my mind sometimes when I am writing about people like Dobson with so much money and self-righteousness. My mind moves faster than my edit button at times…lol
I stand corrected…thank you
Fixed it!
why aren't some of the other advertisers protesting and pulling out?
There was no need to. All that would do is give Focus on the Family positive attention.
Bhahaha! You are so right about male responsibility regarding pregnancy. Ah, but a new day is dawning… with DNA testing becoming more affordable, perhaps more men will think twice before they walk away from a "now it's your problem" pregnancy.
Is he promoting a male chastity (sp) belt? How about it? Men, you show up to pick up your date and good old Dad slaps a belt on your Johnson and Dad keeps the KEY! Dads, how much would you pay for this product to protect your daughters?
Slow down and take a deep breath, Leah! It should be "irresponsible OMISSION of male contraceptive use." And, by the way, I heartily AGREE!
It always amuses me (in a sick sort of way) how the same people who are so virulently opposed to abortion freedom are also the ones who are opposed to sex education and male contraception research – both of which would reduce the need for abortions.
Of course, it is likely that one of their base motivations is the desire to 'outbreed' their opposition – and in most of the trailer parks across the country, you can see that this strategy is working…
It still is and was a choice. If we would just promote the fact that these women, palin and her daughter included, had a choice. They chose to have a baby. Others may choose abortion.
Palin is very lucky that Trig is mildly impaired. I have seen DS babies with a myriad of physical and behavioral issues. He would not be a poster child for the right if he were like that.

I think that you are truly missing a golden opportunity of 1. Punishing CBS 2. Showing the Dominionists that they are very much in the minority. And 3. Showing the Alllitos of the world that woman mean business.
I do not blog or I would do this myself but you have the necessary affiliations to get this up and running.
FIRST GO TO DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND AND FIND THE SINGING GRANNIES LINK
-Pass it on to all of your affiliates
-Have them post Grannies on all of their websites AND ALSO SHARE WITH THEIR AFFILIATES.
-Have women memorize the song and shout it out their window (Howard Beale style) at half time. (BARITONES WELCOME!)
-Or take it to the downtown square
-Refuse to let husband/ boyfriends watch the half time show before they email CBS to show disapproval.
I know that time is short but this is really a moment in time that woman can really make an impact.

Thank you! There are so many opportunities I wish I could clone myself to cover them all. But it helps greatly when readers bring me direct ideas. Much appreciated!
Well, the ad was shown, and it didn't make any reference to a choice being made nor talking poorly about abortion. Other than the fact that it showed the web address with the tag "celebrate life," it was a completely benine commercial. However, they gained the attention they wanted by merely buying ad time. Seems like all the hype was for not.
Apparently they have 2 to 3 million to blow…how nice for them. There are a lot of children out there who could have benefited from that kind of money….
That might be true, but that wasn't the point of your article. If it was, you would have also complained about InBev who spent $24M promoting beer that could have been better spent on victims of drunk driving.
InBev isn't pushing to set laws in stone based on their religious convictions (i.e. forcing us all to drink watered down beer – or any beer at all)…so yes…that is the POINT. Otherwise, as the bumper sticker says…
"Focus on Your OWN Damn Family!"
But that wasn't the point of your comment to my response.
