Keep Your Bible OFF Our Ballots!
Call it Irony, Call it Kharma, Call it God’s Will…

This is too ironic to pass up. If you have not read my previous post about this issue, please do so. I am linking to it right here for your quick access. It is titled “Biblical Gunsights ~ Forced to Look Down God’s Barrel”.

It is a story about this same man, Glyn Bindon, who piously decided on behalf of ALL US military personnel, that it is appropriate to inscribe bible verses from his faith on military issue rifles. The same man who coincidentally died in my home state of Alaska (of all places), in a plane crash between none other than  ~ Gunsight Mountain and Sheep Mountain.

If that isn’t a sign from someone to the Sheeples…I don’t know what is!

Alaska State Troopers have identified the two passengers who died in a plane crash near Gunsight Mountain last week as Tammy and Mark Duvall of Homer. Pilot Glyn Bindon, 66, of Homer and South Lyon, Mich, was also killed.

The crash occurred when Bindon’s Cessna 206 crashed Sept. 2 into a mountain between Gunsight Mountain and Sheep Mountain near the Glenn Highway between Anchorage and Glennallen.

Troopers said the plane crashed at the 3,700-foot level on the southeast side of the mountain. Family members searched the area when the Cessna was reported overdue and located the plane at about 9 p.m. Troopers were notified about 9:30 p.m. and arranged for a Blackhawk helicopter and a C-130 aircraft to respond. Family friends with aircraft and an airstrip nearby were contacted and overflew the scene while an R44 helicopter belonging to yet another family friend responded from Merrill Field.

A private pilot landed at the crash site during hours of darkness, confirmed at least two fatalities and confirmed the tail number of the aircraft as the plane in question. Rescuers landed and confirmed three fatalities.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators reached the crash site last Thursday, said air safety investigator Scott Erickson. He said bodies were recovered and a field investigation started. The NTSB plans to return to the site today to remove the wreckage.

NTSB investigation into the cause of the crash continues, Erickson said, and results will be released within six to eight months.

The Duvalls have two adult children and three young children, all girls. Bindon is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bindon of South Lyon, Mich., and nine children. Bindon was founder of Trijicon Inc., and the inventor of adjustable gunsights and an adjustable shock absorber, according to information provided by his family.

Funeral services were held yesterday for Bindon. Services for the Duvalls are pending.

And a HUGE shout out to Linda @ Celtic Diva and her readers in Alaska for catching the connection!

    Karma can be cruel but the gunsight/ sheep irony is undeniable. I feel badly for any tragic loss of life and hope their families somehow come to terms and find peace.

    • I do not celebrate the loss of life either, yet could not believe the irony of his death…but I would have to draw some conclusions that his family has at minimum found peace with the fortune of his corporate success as a "devout Christian".

  2. Yes, Karma can be cruel, but justice is not!
    Good to see that this issue regarding secret biblical codes on our military gun-sights is being addressed.
    This topic arouse my curiosity again about that lady, a military contractor, who won the FIXED ebay auction to have lunch with PAlin and family.

  3. So, let me get this straight. According to Pat Robertson, the Haitians made a pact with the devil and brought on all this death and destruction, and Bindon made a patriotic pact with God to spread the Good News of Jesus by enhancing a lethal weapon with scripture, and now he's dead. Even though the irony of dying between those two named mountains is about as blatant as a "sign" could ever be, I wonder if our focus is distracted by the supernatural. Give Haiti a few years and multi-national (mostly Amercian) corporations will be making a "killing" from the new Port-au Eden, and the Bindon's of this country will STILL be making millions of dollars in (no-bid?) contracts all under the banner of a "Christian nation". Makes me ill.

    The Spirits of Gunsight and Sheep Mountains seem to have taken a dim view of the purveyors of those "holy" wars in the HinduKush and Himalayan ranges.
    So they decided to reach out and touch them? Hmmm…

  5. This should be a lesson to these types of "Christians." The lesson should be that they can never be sure that they "speak" for God. The lesson will probably be lost on them because they are not listening. Whatever happened to "beating swords into plowshares?" I'm guessing that they don't focus on this because there's no profit in it.

    • This thing's started to get a habit of logging me out every couple visits, lol

      We like to see Micah 4.3, but they like to see Joel 3.10…

      And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. – Micah 4.3 KJV (cf Isaiah 2.4)

      Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. – Joel 3.10 KJV

      • Sorry about that Steve. Let me know if you continue to experience troubles and I will address them. Thank you for commenting, I always appreciate what you have to share. You have seen this from the inside.

        • Not so much as others here probably have. But I know all too well the damage overzealous Christian fundamentalists can do, although it isn't as much from the NARasites as just plain fundies. Though as we've seen…it's starting to coalesce, and that's worrying me. The Southern Baptists have fallen, will conservative Methodists like my family fall too?

  6. I guess the big "0" has achieved his goal and put an end to what was the greatest country on earth and we no longer enjoy the freedoms my ancestors fought for. Since when is "you" opinion the only right one? You can bad mouth us Christians all you want but we will not describe you with the same hateful names. You can live the way you want and do the things you want to do as long as they don't harm me. We have stamps that are middle eastern design but that is fine with me, I won't use them. If you don't like the "secret" message on the scope, scratch it off and say it was damaged when you jumped behind a wall. Remember you are the same people that don't want to execute killers but sure don't mind killing babies before they are born. You also want to take away guns from people that never hurt anyone but what are you going to do when you get attacked in your home? Invite them in for some wine? Wake up and realize this is America and even if you give us away to illegals that are pouring into our land and are too pantie waisted to fight for our country, we will still be there to defend it for you.

    • Oh my, my , my! See…this is the problem when rhetoric is regurgitated and thoughtful replies are not given. You have clearly made some blanket ReBiblican assumptions…so allow me:
      1) I am a Christian, the kind that believes in the compassion and kindness of the teachings of Christ;
      2) I don't see the Islamic symbol inscribed on any military equipment or other government funded material;
      3) I do believe in the death penalty;
      4) I also would love to see less abortions and advocate strongly for the sterilzation of males who are repeat offenders of impregnation and abandonment – this would dramatically stem the tide of unwanted pregnancies!
      5) I no more want your gun than I want someone to take mine (although, the only time one of mine was taken – was when it was stolen by these angry fellows from the Mat-Su Valley after breaking into my home (violation of privacy) in Anchorage out of their anger re: the work I did on custody and child support). Hmmm…you mean like that?
      6) And don't even GO there with my wine! Or my Blue Sapphire…I don't share…never went to Kindergarten!
      7) Have you checked out the heritage of the majority of our brave men and women in the military serving our country (that would be America), risking their lives to defend our freedoms and our constitution? Yep…the Caucasian contingent is outnumbered.

      BTW…what are your origins? I haven't met anyone yet who is FROM here and did not GET here without benefit of immigrating. Even the native population that I grew up around originated from the Siberian crossing many, many years ago. When did your relatives immigrate and live here as illegals before become legal immigrants. Mine were from Scandinavia and I am 4th generation born and raised American. Just sayin'…

      Hey, have a great day! God grant you peace, Rod. We all need it!

  7. Or perhaps the message on the scope gives the exact wrong message to those we're fighting? Like, say, confirming in their mind that this is a holy war in the face of the government saying it's not? And ticking them off so much they send a few more planes at us?

  8. In case it matters to you, the word "karma" is never spelled with an "h" in it.

  9. Hey, angry-type Christians above: I bet you watch a lot of TBN. I do too; I love the Lord and I love hearing about him. I have TBN on for about 12 hours a day.

    Some of the statements you make sound like you believe some of the false teachers on there! Jack Van Impe has really been laying in on thick lately about Obama and the New World Order. The guy on Coral Ridge Hour introductions is always spouting how Christianity is being supressed in America. (Yet TBN’s on 24/7??) John Hagee…well, you know what John Hagee says. (His children are lovely singers, I must say.) The list unfortunately goes on.

    I used to believe that stuff…until the day I started to fact-check. You have a computer; you can do it too. It might take a little while, but it’s well worth it to end up thinking for yourself. Haven’t you noticed when all the false teachers end stirring up anger and fear in you, they try to sell you a book or DVD they wrote that reinforce your fears? It’s quite profitable in that one area alone. The tone of some of those programs makes me feel dirty; I often turn it to JCTV or Smile of a Child (TBN young adult/children branches, for you heathens out there ;-) so I can hear about the Lord, Bible stuff, love of God, forgiveness, praying for our enemies, etc without it being polluted by anger and hatred from someone who claims to speak for Jesus.

    Remember that God is in control, will ya’? Also, Jesus does not want us to live in the spirit of fear. Those two points alone should make you pause before you get all wound up believing what people who lie for a living tell you, whether they be on TBN or Fox News.

    I’m against abortion too; I voted strictly one-issue GOP straight ticket for the last 35 years. But when I was expected to support Palin after her extreme hate speech, the blinders finally fell off. I realized that I had been played the whole time by the GOP. Once they got into office, they hardly ever did anything about abortion. They wanted my vote and after they got it, they used the power of office to enrich themselves. (I’m party-homeless now.) People like this don’t care what what’s moral; they slap a Christian label on anything to get what they want from other Christians and then claim they’re being persecuted (OMG! It’s the last days!!) when observers (like this blog) comment on it.

    Angry drive-by posters usually don’t come back and read comments, but if you do,

    regards from puffkitty with the log in her eye ;-)

    • Thank you for taking the time to articulate so many points about this truly sad occurrence going on in America in the name of God. I often point out that it is a small percentage at the top of this heretical heap that is actually profiting, the followers have chosen to simply close their minds, abandon reason and follow, follow follow…right off the edge of reason and true Christianity.

      Believe it or not, I am not a Party loyalist either. I am actually a social liberal and fiscal conservative…but I am an impassioned supporter of separation of church & state. Throughout history we have seen what happens when the two join forces and unless you are in the winning "camp", atrocities and oppression abound!

      That said, the astroturfing fuax-christians will have to remain outraged and fristrated. I don't have time to play their games. It is the rest of us from all parties, all veiws, all religions that are willing to discuss and learn. As you say, "worth it to end up thinking for yourself". Jesus never taught stunted intelligence as a component of proving your devotion to God.

      The Phalse Prophets for Profits who prey on the desperate disgust me. And the claim to the label of Christian has become a brand that is indeed used to WIN. But for who? Power and the glory – of SELF! I am with you in many ways, though I know we would disagree on some issues. But one thing I think we have both made clear, we have no tolerance for frauds in the name of God. I appreciate your comment.

  10. You’re welcome. (Hey, maybe with the new Supreme Court decision regarding corporations having unlimited money to pour into elections, the megachurches can incorporate and run for president since a corp. has personhood!)

    • That is a scary notion that smacks of reality! They are popping Martinelli's bottles today and preparing to manipulate every campaign district…I hope you continue to contribute your thoughts as this battle ramps up. Welcome…

    • Most of the megachurches are already incorporated. The other year, the decision of most of them not to hold services on Christmas Day, since it fell on a Sunday, was, without exception based on the expense of opening the "worship facility" and paying staff compared with "minimum functional donation level." When they realized how bad that sounded, they talked about the sacred nature of spending the day as a family unit. Apparently, the kids have their own service, or at least some kind of child care, while the parents participate in worship.

      The two near me DID open up their "fellowship facility" that afternoon and charge members a "Voluntary love offering" to cover the cost of "coffee and doughnuts." I went along as the guest of a friend. Other than a couple of ladies doing the cooking, it was an all-guys thing. Didn't see much coffee, but beer was a buck a cup, and the hot dogs were free. Started at Noon and broke up when the game (and tapes of another game) ended. Maybe the guys thought about their kids real hard, or something.

      These people have to keep telling you how Christian they are, because you'd never know it by watching them.

  11. Good information here. I enjoyed reading this and can’t wait for more. Keep up the good work.
