I believe it is necessary to share these emails sent to Mikey Weinstein occasionally…I am going to start a Mikey’s Corner category. He gets more than I could post over here, but I believe it is important to share a sampling with you emphasizing how hateful these people are who dare to take the name of Jesus and twist it in to unrecognizable hate and condemnation of others.

Subject: Re: God Can Reach Mikey’s Heart“Huh? You certainly have not been set straight, and it’s unlikely you ever will. Nothing and no one is working to prevent you from practicing your dollar-chasing, secular jewish racist “religion”. Christians, like Musims, believe in conversion. Jewz do not. Why not, Mikey? Could it be because jewz do not choose, rather they are the chosen? Don’t the jews believe they must “heal” the world? Isn’t that their excuse for minding everybody else’s business? Because they know better than gentiles how the gentile should live and worship? All the while working to gather onto themselves all earthly treasures, as promised in their Torah by their own special G-D. Humility and poverty is the life Christ exemplified, not an eartly kingdom which would smite the enemies of israel. And because Jesus rebuked the priests and spoke as an apostate, he had to die.I’m rambling but I think you missed the irony in the email from John K. He’s saying it isn’t too late for you. I suspect he’s wrong.”(name withheld)

These scum can afford their own computers (I have to borrow one) and have nothing better to do than spew bigotry while calling it their Constitutional right.
Truly, truly shameful.
I do want Mikey and all the stalwarts at MRFF to know that for every hateful bottom-feeder out there who pollutes the MRFF Newsletter, there are thousands of us hot-blooded Unitarian-Universalists, unwilling to swallow this shame, angry enough to speak out against the hate (we may be White but we’re not cowards!).
We stand with you, Mikey.

You know…all that “socialist” loving rhetoric.
But then again…the dominionist sects really avoid the New Testament like the plague, unless they can occasionally go over there and cherry-pick something useful to justify their goals to rule, oppress, control, dominate and subjugate their followers…all in the name of JEEsus! Amen!

That's pretty disgusting stuff. I've received some myself. I really would like to know about all of Jesus' admonitions to love your neighbors, love your enemies, turn the other cheek, etc, etc.. These people have turned the Bible into talking points. Any Pagan (like me) is more familiar with the Bible than most of these Right Wing zealots.
Hrafnkell – you are going to have to get with the program. Loving your neighbor AND your enemies is so 60's. No, no, no. The new 'c'hristianity is all about flashing your smiling pearly whites while inside you are seething with hatred for Jews, Muslims, atheists, gays, liberals and immigrants. In addition to hating people, you get to hate issues – pro choice, gay marriage, global warming, saving the environment, clean energy, and health care for all. And to really make things fun, you get to go on witch hunts, and participate in spiritual mapping. Oh, and don't forget the imprecatory prayers. You get to pray for God to ruin, or even kill people. A little out of the mainstream, I know, but so much more exciting.
If anyone reading this thinks I'm being sarcastic, you would be right. If you think I'm exaggerating, you would be wrong. There is no 'love your enemies' in today's 'c'hristianity. Just spiritual warfare. That is the name of the new game.
I talk to several non-Christians and ex-Christians who are better-versed in the Bible than most Christians I know. I'd like to say I'm better-versed than most Christians…being but a Christian myself (though, many would say I'm a Christian in name only because I'm non-Pauline).
Steve – please share with me what "non-Pauline" means?
It means I don't follow the doctrines of Paul (in the Epistles of the New Testament).
Got it…thank you!
This is what I was saying in another response…I am not anti-Christian, but these people are NOT Christian. It is reprehensible…
The bible warns us about exactly this; people who use the Lord to gain power and to abuse others– the wolf in sheep's clothing. That's what these people are.
I'm wondering when people will grow weary of the boy crying wolf one too many times, and by that I mean the constant lies these folks perpetuate (in the name of the "bible").
It's my own personal belief that the teachings of Christ are to be interpreted as moral fables, a lesson in how we should treat others, etc. Any lover of Christ would not send emails like the above…
or the emails I get, full of swear words, name-calling and threats.
Their meme of calling all dissent "smears" is antithetical to America's true values, and yet they call themselves "patriots".
It's exactly as Orwell predicted; A world of opposites and distorted reality meant to oppress the people.
sarah j, you are absolutely correct about the Bible warning against people who use the Lord to gain power and abuse others. I was reading Jesus' words in Luke today where he warned about people becoming susceptible to those who portray themselves as speakers for God. This is something that turns my stomach. How can these people say they are Christians when they have no compassion for their fellow man, no tolerance, and push hate and divisiveness 24/7? I was raised in the Baptist church and none of this supports the teachings of the Jesus Christ whose teachings I follow! They have indeed bastardized Christianity to justify their actions. I will continue to stand with the MRFF and Mr. Weinstein to protect religious freedom. As Leah has been saying all along, these people are dangerous, and an example of this is their influence on bringing about legislation in Uganda to kill all gays. The most shameful thing about the Uganda legislation is that all of those who have been working behind the scenes here in America to accomplish this are running like rats from a burning ship because they do not want to denounce their roles in promoting the death of innocent people.

"These are…‘c’hristians. A sect that usurps authority from a bastardized version of the Christian Bible…"
What part of the 'Obama dolls' email was Christian, again? Or the "tough Jews" one?
It would appear you are assuming that if someone disagrees with Weinstein they are, ergo, Christians. That's pretty prejudicial.
I'm not sure if you are misunderstanding Leah or I'm misunderstanding you. I'm just not sure what your post is addressing, so I will take one sentence at a time and comment.
"You said:
"These are…‘c’hristians. A sect that usurps authority from a bastardized version of the Christian Bible…' "
Leah uses the term 'c'hristian to refer to those of the far right evangelical fundamentalists. Many of us believe that these folks, while claiming to be Christians, have so corrupted the teachings and spirit of the Bible that they no longer represent Christianity in traditional Orthodox, Catholic, or Protestant forms. Her modified spelling is to distinguish one from the other.
"What part of the 'Obama dolls' email was Christian, again?"
None, that's the point Leah is trying to make.
"Or the "tough Jews" one?" Again, none.
"It would appear you are assuming that if someone disagrees with Weinstein they are, ergo, Christians. That's pretty prejudicial."
Leah is assuming that people who send hate mail to Mikey are 'c'hristians but NOT Christians.
Mikey is fighting for religious freedom for EVERYONE. People all faiths and people of none. But he's only fighting against one group. That would be the 'c'hristians who think everyone who disagrees with their beliefs should have to convert or conform.
"None, that's the point Leah is trying to make."
No, she asserted that the writers of the letters held a religious ideology, when in fact they expressed none. She lumped the "secular" hate-mail in with the "sectarian" ones. That obfuscates the fact that not everyone who disagrees with Weinstein is of the "C/christian" faith.
JD – let me see if I can put this in simple, plain language that you can understand. For your benefit, I will use traditional spellings of all words and be sure to define them when I deem necessary.
Mikey Weinstein is the founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. He began the foundation to defend the right of religious freedom of all military personnel. The reason he did this is because he became aware that the US Air Force Academy had a huge problem with religious coercion. Not a few isolated incidences, but an every day, all day effort to convert any and all cadets who were not of a particular Christian sect. Cadets who did not convert were subject to behaviors intended to stress, shame, mock, and isolate them. Mikey discovered that while overzealous upperclassman were being 'blamed' for this behavior, it was actually organized, endorsed, and encouraged from the top down. That includes the officers in charge of the Academy, professors, and chaplains. This behavior violates the separation of church and state amendment in the Bill of Rights.
You with me so far?
This sect of Christianity is known as dominionism, named for their belief that they alone have God's mandate and blessing to exercise dominion over all peoples, all governments, all aspects of society. It is important for you to understand that this particular sect is the only group of people who Mikey is fighting against, and the only group of people who have ever come out against him. Since founding the MRFF, Mikey has discovered the same behavior outside of the AF Academy, in other branches of the military. Members of the Army, Navy, and Marines have enlisted his help with the same coercive behavior and always from the same sect of Christians. You might be surprised to learn that the greatest majority of Mikey's clients are Christians. They've been told they're not the right kind of Christian, or not Christian enough. They are pressured to believe ideas that are foreign to their own understanding of the scriptures.
Mikey is fighting for religious freedom. The freedom to choose your own religion and worship and pray as you see fit. The freedom to be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or nothing at all. The freedom to pray to God, Allah, the Sun, or Felix the Cat. There is nothing wrong with the military and their academies having religious counseling, services, and materials available to their members. And there's nothing wrong with them inviting you to participate. But if you say "no, thank you" that should be the end of it. You should not be made to pay any price for having your own beliefs and practices.
Unfortunately, dominionist Christians do not see it this way, and I reiterate they are the only people Mikey is doing battle with. And they are the only people expressing their disdain for Mikey's work. No Jew, no Muslim, no Hindu, no Buddhist, and no atheist has ever come forward to tell Mikey to STFU. MRFF has a research team and legal staff that checks out all complaints. Mikey is now representing over 15,000 clients and I assure you the stories are ALWAYS the same. Leah and I are very familiar with Mikey's work. If you think you know differently, I submit that the burden of proof rests on your shoulders. You might want to read Mikey's book, "With God on our Side, to get the complete back story and understand what we are talking about. I also suggest you do some research on dominionism to know more about what YOU are talking about.
The emails above do not have to say specifically that the author is a dominionist Christian. They self identify by the very content of their email as it relates to the history of the conflict. There is no "secular hate mail" in this fight. You need to know more about the conflict to get this concept.
Well said! I really can't add any more to that explanation…but then if this is a dominionist 'c'hristian, there will be no explanation that is acceptable. He just added himself to the list of emails I posted in this article…
"He just added himself to the list of emails I posted in this article… "
And you just reinforced my point: You pre-judge people based on nothing more than their criticism of your position.
In your post, you assigned a religious ideology to the letter writers who expressed none. Such intolerance–one so blind it assumes all opposition is of a single ideology–has nothing to do with capitalization.
In that case, why don't you enlighten us as to what other individual or organization would have a problem with religious freedom, or the separation of church and state. Name just one.
Celia – I read your story quite a few months back and was shocked and repulsed. You are a fighter, a survivor, and a winner. I am sending you some lovin'. Consider yourself hugged.
I get emails like that whenever I write about Palin. Her followers are truly out of their minds with rage. Like attracts like.
I am not a Christian after what I went through at the hands of 'c'hrsitians in Nome, It was the real Christians who knew what had really happened and were on my side. They are one of the reasons I survived without having a total irreversible breakdown.
Ouch! I just read some of what you said on your blog. So far I've always been right that just when I thought I've had it pretty bad, I find someone else who's had it far, far worse than me. (I was raised, from 6 to about 19, primarily by devout Christians who thought I was just a problem child… but in fact I'm an aspie and the way my own family treated me left me with a case of PTSD. The ability to understand how these NARasites abuse scripture is a side effect of how I learned to cope with things as a child…and my distrust of organized religion in general is from my later reflections on it as an adult.)
Angry, paranoid people are making the rest of us angry and paranoid:

Huffpo has an article about Rick Warren finally speaking out against it, but I have no interest in reading it because when he was first asked, he said he doesn't believe in interfering in other nations affairs. A true Christian would not have been forced to speak against something that is so obviously wrong in the first place. IMHO, the only reason he is saying anything now is because of the unwanted press attention.
Then move along, JD…nothing more for you to see here…

Super Christianity is the last refuge of a scoundrel supposedly, but actually it is the first!
