Stealth Candidate Bails on GOP to Win…But Look at the Company She Keeps!

The “stealth candidate” practice has been in place for over two decades and it was orchestrated by the Religious Right. The following is from an article that is 5 years old and I ask you to consider how this is playing out any differently today.

R ReedThe term stealth candidate was first coined by the coalition’s executive director, Ralph Reed, to refer to a political unknown with no previous record who conceals his or her radical religious support and loyalty. Reed said that running stealth candidates is “just good strategy. It’s like guerrilla warfare. . . . It’s better to move quietly, with stealth, under cover of night.” ~ Ralph Reed

Now that they have virtually turned the Republican Party into a laughing stock they are appearing to jump ship and script a more middle-of-the-road position, by calling it “non-partisan”. They rely on most voters not looking beyond sound bites and accepting complete ambivalence when asked direct questions. Susan Hutchison is such a candidate. She and her consultants are working hard to portray her as a moderate, and it is working to some degree.

Question…how can a person accept endorsements from extremists like Joseph Fuiten, and claim in any remote way that they are not aligned ideologically? Fuiten’s anti-gay sentiments and actions are dangerous. This is not an evangelical preacher who quotes scripture about the sins of homosexuality, he associates with and supports groups such as “Watchmen at the Walls”, who is one of the first neopente-dominionist organizations explicitly considered a hate-group much like that of the Ku Klux Klan. Of note, the Assemblies officially sanctioned “Watchmen At The Walls” and an Assemblies front connected with “Watchmen” has literally used Biblical sanction for genocide of non-believers.

This is not an association that I would sell my soul to claim, especially if I were painting myself a moderate!

Watchmen on the WallsCedar Park, in many ways, is essentially the headquarters of the dominionist movement in Washington State.  Among other things, Fuiten was a founding chairman and CEO of a dominionist group called Faith and Freedom Network; FFN is one of the very, very few groups that actually acknowledges its official role as an Assemblies lobbying wing.

On October 20th, 2007, Joseph Fuiten–a major Assemblies of God leader and thus effectively representing the denomination–effectively gave its official blessing to hate crimes against LGBT people and frank Holocaust revisionism, and declared war on America…and in this act, finally made it public what the Assemblies of God has been preaching in private for decades.

There was some debate–after a lot of good folks started shining some light on “Watchmen On The Walls”–whether Joseph Fuiten was to attend.
It turned out that he not only did so, but literally declared war on Non-Assemblies America:
One of those rattled was Pastor Joseph Fuiten — who in the past has argued that non-Christians should be considered illegal aliens — who in addressing the audience Saturday chose mostly to complain about coverage of the Watchmen and claim that they’re just benign Christians standing up for decency:
When Channel 5 reported tonight that you have declared war on homosexuals they are inciting people to violence. Have you declared war? War is violent! Channel 5 accused you of being violent and many will believe their accusation.
How many Russians have been killed over the years by atheists?
Stalin killed at least 20 million in the name of atheism but no one ever says that secular people are violent.
Hitler was a pagan, and apparently a lot more. He killed probably 8 million in his gas chambers and caused the deaths of millions more.
Do they ever object to pagans, occultists, and whatever else?
The “whatever else,” in case you’re wondering, happens to be homosexuals. One of the key figures in the Watchmen organization on the West Coast (and internationally) is Oregon’s Scott Lively, author of a work of Holocaust revisionism titled The Pink Swastika,
which posits that Hitler and other Nazis were secretly homosexuals, and that indeed both the Nazi regime and the Holocaust were products of a homosexual conspiracy. Lively attended the convention in Lynnwood and spoke to reporters outside.

There was some debate about Fuiten attending a “Watchmen On The Walls” convention in Lynnwood, Washington due to unwanted media attention on them by the news media…but he did. And not only did he attend, it turned out that he literally declared war on Non-Assemblies America…

Pastor Joseph Fuiten — who in the past has argued that non-Christians should be considered illegal aliens — who in addressing the audience chose mostly to complain about coverage of the Watchmen and claim that they’re just benign Christians standing up for decency.

FUITEN: “The secularists always say, you’re trying to set up a theocracy. You’re trying to put your values on us.

And I say to myself, hey, wait a second here. This is the way it’s always been in America. You come along with your secular agenda. You’re the ones trying to put your values on America, not me. Our values are native here. It’s yours that are foreign. You’re the illegal alien here, not me.”

There is a mountain of information that can be written on Mr. Fuiten and his twisted view of Christianity, his hatred of gay people, his dismissal of not only the entire Muslem world, but basically all NON-dominionists. But I hope the point I am trying to make is being made.

And what is that point?

That Susan Hutchison is a Political Dominionist Republican. No amount of “thou doth protest too much” is going to work unless she were to come out plainly – and renounce this underlying movement to marry church and state.

Vote the BibleHer campaign donations have been exclusively for conservative republicans. Her fundraising is weighted heavily by republican contributors. Before running for executive, she assisted in the efforts to make the office nonpartisan to set up this opportunity for herself and others like her who will follow. For why would ANYONE sanction an association with the Fuiten’s of the world unless you shared something in common?

There is no acceptable answer…and THIS is not “non-partisan”

Fuiten said he knows his endorsement won't be viewed in a positive light by all voters: "Not everybody thinks I walk on water." (Seattle Times, 11 Aug 2009)

    No narcissism here. Ha!

I e-mailed my political activist sister-in-law in Seattle yesterday with a link to your remarks on Susan Hutchison, Leah, amd she told me she's been working the phones every day against Hutchison's campaign.

My youngest brother lives in Seattle. I'm going to call him and let him know about her by directing him to your blog. I'm pretty certain that if he finds that she is nuts, he will not be voting for her. Thanks for this information, Leah. Please keep up the good work. :-)

That is great! Thank you for making that call to your brother. It is exactly the way change occurs…with each and every one of us making a difference one person at a time!
