I am honored by the number of readers drawn to this blog site that have so much insight, intelligence and perspective on the discussion of what really amounts to a total effort to fight for the separation of church & state!
And I welcome blog post ideas and articles from those of you interested in contributing. A few of you have begun to send in your submissions, and while I cannot post all of them, I will happily accept your assistance of taking up the slack for me from time to time when I have dropped the blogging ball. It is easy, on occasion, to become overwhelmed with the massive time commitment required in the ongoing research and writing on “God’s Own Party?”
Therefore, I humbly accept your contributions to this discussion in writing, and I will indeed post reader articles here from time to time. I not only welcome the help, but it contributes greatly to making this a “community” event and not a monologue.
I also believe strongly in empowering all of us to feel a sense of hope around never letting the Dominionists win in their efforts to turn our democracy into a theocracy. And that requires each one of us knowing that we can all contribute to this in many ways…big and small! So in the spirit of that I will gladly share a post here and there from you, the readers and take my hat off to you for sinking your teeth into this with me.
The following is a piece written by a contributor you are very likely to see more of in the future. Allow me to introduce “GenieO” and share the following article that she wrote (I added images and the article title)…
Intentional “Projection”
“Psychological projection (or projection bias) is the unconscious act of denial of a person’s own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are ascribed to the outside world, like the weather, the government, a tool or another person or people.” -Wikipedia
Notice that the above statement says “unconscious act.” The definition describes an actual psychological disorder. Unfortunately, the same can not be said of today’s Republican Party/or Dominionist Movement and their “media”. They have actively and purposely engaged in projecting onto Liberals the very sins they themselves are guilty of, for the sole purpose of stirring up fear and anger in the hearts and minds of the American public.
Let’s look at a few examples.
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, an independent documentary, narrated by Ben Stein, which purports that intelligence is being suppressed in American schools by a conspiratorial scientific community that fights against Intelligent Design being taught alongside evolution. ID is not science. It is nothing more than thinly disguised creationism. It is religion. It requires faith.
As far as I’m concerned, creationism and ID can be taught or discussed in other, more appropriate, classes such as Philosophy, Comparative Religions, History of Religion, but definitely not science. By trying to force ID into the science classroom, conservatives are attempting to suppress the teaching of actual science by creating doubt about a universally accepted explanation of the diversity of life. The conservative view suppresses intelligence, yet they deliberately turn the tables and project this crime onto liberals. [And I haven’t even gone into Stein’s linking Darwinism to Nazism]
Obama the Nazi Think Teabaggers and Town Halls. How many news clips have you seen on TV and YouTube that showed people carrying signs of President Obama with the Hitler moustache? How many people were crying that Obama was a fascist? And yet they strongly and aggressively support the Republican Party which is now firmly in the grip of the ultra conservative, religious right.
Within the dominionist movement is a group known as Reconstructionists. Now think Sarah Palin. Reconstructionists want nothing more than to rewrite the US Constitution, officially turning America into a Christian Nation and returning to Old Testament biblical law. This, of course, means that democracy is out the door and theocracy is in.
A theocracy would require an authoritarian government that rules with an iron fist. It would require a police state, and well rewarded snitch system, always on the hunt for people breaking the laws of God in order to keep America pure and chaste. Harsh punishments are required for lawbreakers, including executions for adulterers, blasphemers, homosexuals, and incorrigible children. [boggles the mind, considering the Republican sins of late] Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists, and any other non Christian groups would have to convert, or be exiled – or worse, executed.
There are white supremacists within the dominionist tent who would extend that purge to blacks, Hispanics and Asians, regardless of their religious beliefs. They want white, Christian, patriotic American nationalists. Is any of this sounding familiar? Does any of this begin to resemble fascism? Yet here again, the tables are turned and the right wing march toward fascism is projected onto the liberals who are desperately trying to save the American freedoms and diversity we have enjoyed for well over 200 years.
Lies, Lies, and more Lies A lunatic fringe group is accusing President Obama of lying to America about where he was born. Known as the ‘birthers’ they contend that he is not an American citizen by virtue of having been born in Kenya, and therefore not eligible to serve as President. He has been accused of lying about his religious beliefs and the meaning and origin of his name. These are just a very few of the accusations that have been debunked by snopes.com and factcheck.org, yet they resurface time and time again. And just recently Rep. Joe Wilson accused Obama of lying about what is and isn’t in the healthcare reform bill. If you Google ‘Obama lies’ you will find more than 16 million hits of web sites that purport or refute all the many lies Obama is suppose to have told. Can you imagine the time and energy that went into 16 million hits? And for what purpose? Well, red herring comes to mind.
If the right can distract us with bizarre accusations about our President, maybe we won’t pay too close attention to all the lies they have been telling. Like the WMDs that were suppose to be in Iraq, or the torture that wasn’t torture, or the banking industry that wasn’t being monitored? How about some current stuff, like Michelle Bachmann’s census fear-mongering, or Sarah Palin’s ‘death panels.’ How about the religious displays sneaking into our public buildings or the creationism and revisionist history they’re trying to force into our public schools? How about dominionist pastors and US congressmen involved in sex scandals? So many lies, and yet, here again, they project their own sins onto their imaginary enemies.
The point of all this ’projection’ talk is to ask an important question. Is there anything the dominionist camp won’t resort to in their quest for power? The last time I checked, lies and deceptions were still considered sins. Imagine it – ‘c’hristians sinning, on purpose, for God.
They have discovered an important truth. The greatest majority of Americans really aren’t all that well educated. They are not well read, and they don’t read or think critically. In a struggle for power, your best ally is an ignorant public. You can lie, and they won’t check for facts. You can tell bizarre stories, and they will suck them up like a starving puppy. They will get an adrenaline rush from being scared out of their wits. And they’ll gladly share the misery with friends, family, and co-workers.
Our best ammunition is education and action. Whether you’re well versed in the dominionist movement or just discovering it, learn as much as you can. You’ll find the movement is much bigger and more pervasive than you had imagined. There are dozens of books, web sites, and blogs available to help you on this journey. And when you’re ready, get involved. Maybe you can join an activist organization. Maybe you can offer financial support. Maybe you can write or call the White House and your congressmen. Whatever you decide, just please don’t be passive.
That’s what the other side is counting on.
Thank You GenieO!!

Thank you GenieO – and thank you Leah! My sister-in-law and my best friend (of 40 years) were recruited into the Dominionist Church (they live in Wisconsin). It is absolutely frightening to have a conversation with them. They were intelligent women who were recruited while going through very difficult situations. They actually seem hypnotized now. They have lost their critical thinking skills. I mourn their transformations like I would mourn the death of a loved one. I agree that we MUST get involved before they get their wish for a Theocracy in America. They are well-funded, and a real threat to our Republic. They are literally beating their hate-filled ideology into their children. Frank Schaffer, Max Blumenthal, Rachael Maddow, Leah and others are exposing them – I give thanks for that.
Religiously motivated child abuse is egregious and that is coming as a focused expose very soon! I get goose bumps of sadness when I hear your depiction of how you (and so many others) are forced to grieve over the loss of loved ones into this cult. We are on the winning crest of this wave…and there will be a new industry requiring multitudes of de-programmers!
…coming in book form I meant to say…
Lorelei, my heart aches for you. I too have family in the movement. I know how hard it is to love someone that you can't seem to talk to anymore. There's not much common ground left when all they want is to talk religion. When I know I will be with certain family members, I actually plan ahead for conversation topics, so I can keep them off of religion and politics. I've already tried the reasoning angle – that didn't go over well. I don't recommend it.
I have to say that before I understood the idea of projection it used to get me so upset listening to right wing radio and getting an idea of what they were spewing, but since understanding the psychology behind projecting I have been able to listen to the lies of right wing radio, without loosing my temper, to understand them better.
It also helps me understand what road they want to take us down – because where they see a threat is where they would like to be and have control over – for example, supposed camps via the census, simply means they would like to have those themselves for a few 'undesireables'.
Spot on, my friend! And the axiom, "Know thy enemy" has a tremendous amount of validity!
