God’s Own Party? - That is truly the question. This site explores just when the GOP (Grand Ol’ Party) became an instrument for Religious Right (RR) politics. Are they truly the party of Christianity? NO! The Republican Party was infested in the early 1990s by what we all knew to be the Religious Right. We all wrote them off as zealots but reached into our reserve of tolerance, never thinking that they would evolve into a theocratic machine. The RR was a cat without fangs compared to this new incarnation of neo(new)-conservatives. What we are now seeing is an uprising of extremists. Extremists who have usurped the label of Christianity and are claiming it as their own. I call these coercive religious groups…CHRISTIAN DOMINIONISTS (CD).
It is my intent, through my editorial writings on God’s Own Party? to expose these extremists. Here are my goals…1) Paint a picture of what Christian Dominionism “looks like”; 2) Help us all understand how to identify them; 3) Provide answers and solutions as to how we can push back against this bible-based cult; 4) Appeal to the “Eisenhower Republicans” to PLEASE come back and TAKE YOUR PARTY BACK!; 5) Let Mainline Christians know that their fears are real – that there really ARE extremists masquerading in the name of Christ – and they are Christian Dominionists.
We are seeing the result of religious extremism (often mixed with the adrenalin of pursuit of personal wealth) rearing its ugly head in America not unlike the extremists in the Muslim world. There are loving followers of the Muslim faith who are equally appalled by the actions of a minority of extreme Islamic fundamentalists, as there are a growing number of Mainline Christians who are questioning “good religion/bad religion” even amongst those who self-identify as “Christians”.
This site is only about one thing…ANTI-EXTREMISM!
I do not write as anti-conservative; anti-Christian; anti-religion; anti-ANY faith or non-faith. I am not a fan of either/any Party. I am for the continuation of Separation of Church & State. I am for a FREE Democratic Republic. I am ANTI-EXTREMIST.
I welcome an environment where we can engage in arguments about what to DO with the pothole.
(liberal) let’s fill it no matter the cost, people’s safety are at stake”;
(conservative) “we don’t want anyone hurt but let’s figure out how little of the pothole we can fix and get away with it”;
as opposed to today,
(neo-con/ReBiblican) “let me turn to the scriptures to see if this is moral…ask for contributions…and then pray on whether it needs filling. And if someone dies because we haven’t taken action…then God’s will be done”
We have reached a point in American Politics where the infestation is so severe that we no longer have the luxury of engaging in fiscal versus social debates. We now must link arms in this effort to stand up and say NO! NO, we are not going to let your lunacy turn our country into a theocracy.
